DoseDial Privacy Policy

Effective date: 6 October 2026

In short: DoseDial does not collect your data. It asks for no account, shows no ads and contains no analytics. Everything you enter stays on your own phone.

1. Summary

The app’s own code makes no network requests and your health data is never sent to any server. The app does carry an internet permission, but it is added by the Google Play Services component used for barcode scanning, not by the app itself. See “Camera and barcode scanning” below.

Data leaves the phone only when you ask: the backup file, the PDF report, the daily report and the problem log are sent only when you tap share, with the app you choose.

2. What data is processed

You enter the following and it is stored in a database on your phone:

This is personal health information. None of it leaves your phone on its own. As the developer we have no access to it; there is no server.

3. Backup

When you ask for it, the app writes your data as a JSON file. The phone’s “save” screen opens and you choose the folder and the file name.

On phones without that screen the app shows its own list: Downloads/DoseDial (default), Documents/DoseDial or the app’s own folder. On Android 8 and 9, whichever option you pick, the file is written to the app’s own folder, which is removed when the app is uninstalled.

The backup file is not encrypted and contains your medication information. The app never sends this file anywhere on its own. If you send it to someone, upload it to a cloud service or share it, that is your decision and your responsibility.

4. Adherence report (PDF)

The adherence report PDF you create with Plus is prepared on your phone, in the app’s own folder. The app never sends this file anywhere on its own. When you tap share, the phone’s share screen opens and you choose the app the file goes to (email, messaging, a file manager and so on).

The report contains the profile name, your medicine names, your usage instructions and your dose records, and it is not encrypted. If you send it to someone, save it or upload it to a cloud service, that is your decision and your responsibility.

5. Daily report

The daily report on the home screen puts the day’s doses into plain text: the profile name, the date, medicine names and strengths (for example 500 mg), the time of each dose and whether it was taken, missed or not yet due.

The app never sends this text anywhere on its own. When you tap share, the phone’s share screen opens and you choose the app (WhatsApp, SMS, email and so on) and the person it goes to. Once sent, the text is in that app and with that person; that is your responsibility.

6. Camera and barcode scanning

You can scan the data matrix code on a medicine box. This is performed by the Google Play Services code scanner:

This component adds the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions to the app and includes Google’s own data transport library, through which Google may collect usage and diagnostic data. That belongs to Google’s component and is governed by Google’s privacy policy. The medication and dose information you enter never leaves the phone by this or any other route; the app’s own code contains no path that sends it.

The scanned barcode is matched against a local medicine list shipped inside the app. No internet request is made for that lookup and no authority is notified.

7. Purchases

The app offers a single one-time “Plus” purchase. Payment is handled by Google Play. Your card details never reach the app and are never seen or stored by it. The app receives only whether the purchase was made, and stores that on your phone.

8. Report a problem

The app keeps an event log on your phone to tell whether alarms work correctly. This log leaves the phone only when you tap Send log under Settings › Support: the phone’s share screen opens and the log is sent to support@aer0knight.com with the app you choose (for example your email app). You can review the message or cancel before sending.

The log contains:

The email subject contains the app version number. The log contains no medicine names, no doses and no text you typed. It keeps the last 7 days and at most 2000 events.

9. Read aloud

The read-aloud feature uses your phone’s own text-to-speech engine. DoseDial sends no data anywhere while doing so; the text is handed only to the speech engine on the phone.

10. External links

Links in the app, such as the Instagram row, open outside the app, in the matching app or the browser. That service’s own privacy policy applies there.

11. Permissions and why they are used

PermissionPurpose
Post notificationsShow the reminder at dose time
Exact alarmsMake the reminder fire at the right minute
Start on bootKeep scheduled alarms after the phone restarts
VibrateVibrate on a reminder
Full-screen intentShow the alarm screen while the phone is locked
Foreground service (media)Keep the alarm sound playing until you dismiss it
Google Play billingMake the Plus purchase through Google Play
Internet, network stateNot used by the app itself; comes with the barcode scanning component

The app has no location, contacts, camera or file-reading permission.

12. Retention and deletion

Your data stays on your phone until you delete it. There are three ways:

Backup files written to the phone’s shared folders (for example Downloads or Documents) survive uninstalling the app; you have to delete those yourself. A backup written to the app’s own folder (including backups made on Android 8 and 9) is removed together with the app.

13. Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children. It does not collect data from anyone.

14. Changes

If this policy changes, the date above is updated and the new version is published at the same address. Any update that changes data-handling behaviour will also be announced inside the app.
